Preface
I remember it like it was yesterday. Isn't that what they always say? Honestly, my memories aren't quite as good as all that. Some of it may even be a bit foggy now, but most of it still pretty vivid. I don't think I'll ever forget that summer; it was a summer of discovery, a summer of magic, a summer of wonder.
There was laughter, joy, love, hurt, hate, and loss. Sure, that's what life is all about, but that summer still sticks out as a crucial moment—a turning point in life—a fork in the road, and once you've gone down one path, there's no going back to see what you may have found down the other one. That's life.
This is the story of that summer.

Status
So I started this story back in April 2011, and added a chapter now and then for a few months, then steopped working on it. I wrote one more chapter in April 2012, and there it's remained for the last 13 years (like most everything else on this site).
As I'm currently (August 2025) in the process of resurrecting my website, with plans to start using it as a blog again, I've been thinking that maybe some of my stories could be resurrected as well, and of all the ones I ever self-published on here, this one is the one I felt had the most potential. I think I'd like to continue adding to this, noting that everyhing here is basically a first draft and will eventually be revised (even if I find a way to keep the first draft version for comparison purposes.)
Notes
This story is obviously a work of fiction, and all the characters and places in it are my own creations.
The main location, Sand Hill, is very loosely inspired by a place I lived when I was around the age of the (unreliable) narrator. The other locations mentioned, Woods Park, Aberdeen, and Glensmore are all comnposite amalgamations of various places I've lived over the years, but don't really have any one-to-one mappings to places in the real world.
Also, the post date shown for this intro page is based on the last time a chapter was added, not the last time this page itself was edited (you can see that info in the changelog below.)
