    On terminology — 2020-02-28 03:09

It's been fun discovering terminology for experiences in my life, and exploring personal identity. Saying I'm demi-romantic, and sometimes experience alterous attraction is a lot better than, "well, I have no idea what I feel, but it's usually confusing." Having words to describe my life makes me feel less broken. Now just need to find a term for someone who's default sexual attraction sits on the border between passive and active. If I can't find something that fits, maybe I'll make a new term. Maybesexual? Needs work.

    Amatonormativity — 2020-02-21 08:19

Word of the day: Amatonormativity. The social prioritizing of traditional romantic relationships (and as a part of that, monogamous marriage) over every other connection. As a demi-romantic relationship anarchist, society wants to tell me I'm broken because I don't put romance at the top of my priority list. Well, sorry, but I'm not broken, and I'm sure the many people I have strong connections of every possible type with would agree! Enjoy all of your relationships, and stop worrying about what society thinks is important. Society has thousands of years of baggage to get rid of, you don't have to let any of that weigh you down!

This is a text transcription of a meme I shared on the FB page, with a special dedication to any Ace/Aro people reading this.

    My dear lgbt+ kids,

With Valentine's Day coming up, here's a reminder:

During the days around Valentine's Day, surrounded by media that screams "Romance!" and/or "Sex!" at you, it can be hard to remember it, but please let me remind you: You are okay. You matter. You're lovely just the way you are. You don't need anyone or anything to "complete you". You're not broken.

With all my love, Your Tubmlr Mom
