The entire political structure of the major nations of the world including the United States and Canada, is crumbling before us - things are falling apart fast, and the results could be disasterous. Oh well, the world's going to hell fast anyway, look at the recent political climate in the UK - oppression is coming soon. And with the nice new anti-drug law that is being pushed through into the UN, freedom of speech is on it's way out.
Soon it will be like, "You're free to say what you like, as long as it doesn't offend one of the global elite."
There is a third world war brewing. It's not going to be a pretty war, but it's coming soon. It is the war that will forever change our society - whichever side wins.
On one side we have the "Establishment", growing in power - preparing to turn the United Nations, once the representatives of the people - into a world government. Governing over a world with no personal freedoms or liberties, a world where the government knows your every action, monitors your every word, condemns your every thought.
On the other side we have the communities that have formed here on the internet. Communities like Freenet, and many many others. All dedicated to fighting for personal freedom. Many of these groups may disagree with each other on personal terms, may think that each other have "unethical" or "immoral" beliefs - but they all share one thing in common: They believe in the rights of the indivudual - and will fight to see the oppression of the Establishment destroyed.
The third world war is going to be a war unlike any we have ever seen. In this war the rules have changed. It's a war where old-time politics collide with new-age technology, and the entire political, social, and economic landscapes will be thrown into total upheaval, where they fall again is yet unknown.
By now if you haven't heard about the fierce battle between Napster and the music industry, then where the hell have you been?
There's not much use going into the whole Napster thing further, but the implications of it are quite serious. You see if the "Media Conglomerates" win, they will have effectively ensured their hold over the consumer - well until the next big threat. But don't think they'll stop with Napster, or the dozen or so similar products out there. Hell no, they will continue to press in, joining the Establishment to oppress and destroy any opposition to their position, perhaps even making it illegal to oppose their judgement!
Already the Establishment has taken sides with the recording companies, and has whispered little things in their ears, spreading these things across to the other little media outlets that they control. What is the subject of these private little musings? Freenet.
That's right. An advanced network protocol designed specifically to create a dynamic, de-centralized, non-moderated database of information open to anyone to distribute or gather from any form of information.
Of course the whisperings have caused the media to automatically go out and label Freenet as another Napster-like file-sharing system. Trying to get all of those opposed to "piracy" and "theft" to believe that Freenet is another evil threat to society.
The truth is, Freenet is NOT just another file-sharing system. In fact it's a whole new networking model. It eliminates the need for centralized servers, that's okay - the Establishment doesn't mind about that. It also makes the users - both those posting and reading - completely anonymous, the Establishment is starting to get worried and a little uptight at that point, but to top it all off - Freenet is uncensorable. Once something has been posted to the system, it only "expires" or disappers from the system when the document has gone unviewed for a long period of time. Which means as long as there is a demand for information, that information will be there for the taking. There is no way to remove it, no way to censor it. That is where the Establishment has gone stark raving mad over this new platform of the future.
Now while you may think, "What can this so called Establishment do about something like Freenet?", may I remind you about what I said earlier on how they could always make it illegal to oppose their views?
Bullshit you say. Absolute rubbish, no government or corporation can make something illegal simply for being opposed to them. Think again my friend.
Take for instance in the UK, with their new RIP law. Not only can the government have wiretaps into ALL British ISPs, but they can also demand for a citizen to give up their right to privacy and order that citizen to hand over their encryption key immediately. Failure to hand over that key instantly makes the citizen a criminal. Guilty.
Take for instance the recent discussions in the United Nations, concerning drug laws. This has to be one of the most outrageous travesties I have ever heard about, and coming from a group I once held up to represent all humanity, has now made me sick. Under this "international" law, anyone who disagrees with the idea that drugs are bad, and says anything to the contrary, anyone promoting drugs, or even NOT saying they are bad - can automatically be deamed a criminal, having broken international laws.
Give me a fucking break! When any government, company, organization, or group of any kind starts telling me what I can or cannot say, what I can or cannot think, what I can or cannot be. That's where I draw the line.
The Establishment is taking all of these things, and they are using them as ammunition in their war against freedom. If you think the examples I've given here are few are far between, they are only some of the hundreds of things I could list - going on for an entire novel - of what is really going on out there.
The war is coming. It's going to be a long, hard, nasty war.
The only thing I fear is not knowing who is going to win this war. Because either way, the world will never be the same. But if They win this, We have not only lost our cause, lost our rights, and lost our freedom.
We have lost our world.
