I recently found a scathing review of Canada Web Hosting. As both a satasfied customer, and a happy employee, I have to respond. What follows is my response, take it with a grain of salt, and remember it's my opinion, and does not reflect the opinions of anyone else in the company.
First off, a link to the review. Go ahead, read it, in all it's ranting glory. This guy is good at ranting. He could almost match me. Hello Colin, welcome to my world.
When I went looking for a shared hosting provider in 2003, I found CWH, and have never looked back. The first thing I did before signing up, was calling the technical support line. I got a real person. A person who answered my questions about the software they were running on their Unix platform. I was impressed. They supported all of the features I required, and had a fully load balanced Unix environment. Here is where I can sympathize with Colin, as it was ONLY their Unix and Linux servers which were load balanced, not their Windows servers.
I very rarely ever had to contact technical support or customer service, as there were very few problems. The times I did have to contact someone, I used the online ticket system, and received results very quickly. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.
I have worked in the web hosting and internet service provider industries for 12 years. I have done everything from technical support, to systems administration, to network management to software development. It was after having hosted with CWH for several years, that I decided to join the company. I started off in their technical support department, and now work in their research and development department. I believed in CWH as a customer, and I still believe in them as an employee.
I have in my time hosting with CWH, upgraded from a shared hosting account to a virtual private server, and then a dedicated server solution. I don't know what experience I would have had in the shared hosting or reseller environment, as the company has been shifting its focus to dedicated managed hosting solutions, and away from the shared hosting market.
Finally, I think Colin should do his research before posting inaccurate information, as CWH is not a publicly traded company. It is a privately owned company, and has 3 offices in Canada (Toronto, Vancouver and Kelowna).
