HURI|NET, Strange and twisted fun since 1995

"We take English for granted but if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. There is no egg in eggplant, no ham in hamburger, no apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads which aren’t sweet, are meat.”

2007 in review (2008-01-04) / life, as usual, is strange

Yikes, I really didn't updated this site much last year did I. It had only 2 more than the year prior. Well, here we have the year of 2007 in review :-) Click to read on...

January through March

Gareth was born, woot! It was a busy time, and a completely new experience for me. Even now, almost a year later, I'm still adjusting to being a dad.

I moved up to Research and Development at work, becoming the first employee in the new department (even before we had a manager/director). That was another big change. I'm still here, and have moved up from a developer to an engineer, and am working towards an eventual role as a systems architect.

In web-related stuff, jargon saw a major update in the first quarter. Starting a whole new style for the comics, and introducing one of the new contributors. More on that later.

April through June

Work, work and work. Both at work, and at home.

Both Nancy and I got a year older. She's got one more year before she's a quarter-century, and I've only got 2 more years before I'm three decades.

Did I mention work?

July through September

Well, I went to my first S.C.A. event, in Clinton. That was a great deal of fun, and I am looking forward to going to Clinton again this year. I just need to get some more garb, as I work on my persona of Kay'l Huri d'Affronte.

Camping with Nancy and Gareth was also on the list for my week-long vacation. Good times for all.

October through December

We bought a Wii.

Jargon got updated again.

Christmas!

I was the best man at my best friend's wedding (seriously).

Did I mention the Wii?

In Summary

It was the year of fire, the year of destruction, the year we took back what was ours. It was the year of (re)birth, the year of pain, and the year of joy. It was a new age. It was the end of history. It was the year everything changed.

The year was 2007, the name of the place...

Err, anyway, yeah, that's enough of that then. I'll try to update more often. We've got a lot more stuff to post for jargon, and I'm sure I can come up with some rants, as I've had a few on my brain for a couple years now.

Welcome 2008! Let it bring even more joy, surprise and wonder to our lives.
